Stubble height – The key factor
Research shows clearly that stubble height has a dramatic impact on a combine harvester’s operational performance. The higher the cutter bar is set the less straw is processed by the combine and therefore its capacity to thresh is increased. Farmers have reported increased output by as much as 20% after raising the cutting height by just 10 centimetres.

This results in up to 50% less straw going through the combine, increasing threshing capability considerably as well as the capacity for separation. The operator is also able to undertake the harvesting at increased speeds which ensures the process is carried out much more quickly and, crucially, at much lower fuel consumption levels.

Importantly, you can also harvest with a far greater degree of latitude when it comes to the moisture level of the crop as it is being cut higher and is therefore far more likely to be drier. This alone can extend early morning or later evening harvesting opportunities and reduce expensive drying costs.

Another relevant benefit is derived from the fact that with longer stubble, the threshed straw from the combine sits higher in the field and therefore dries faster.
